If you need a big bold plant with huge leaves to give your garden a tropical vibe, check out New Zealand Purple Castor Bean. It makes quite a statement with its sleek dark purple almost black leaves and stems. The deepest and darkest selection of the colored-leaved Castor Beans, we featured it as a center accent in our dark foliage garden in 2019. Everyone asked about it so we are now making it available. Castor Beans are easy to grow, not being deterred by our summer heat and humidity. The pioneers on the prairie grew them to provide quick shade for their chickens. Everyone should be aware that Castor Bean seed and other plant parts are highly poisonous if eaten.
