We ordered this beautiful plant from a mail order nursery back in 2001 and have absolutely loved growing it in our garden ever since. Although we list it with our perennials, Dwarf Chinese Indigo is actually a low-growing, mat-like deciduous shrub. The plant is covered with small spikes of pinkish-purple pea-like flowers for a long period. It is outstanding in a rock garden or the front the border. As a species, I. pseudotinctoria grows to around 30? tall, but this carpeting selection rarely gets taller than 8?. It is possible that this plant is the same as the cultivar ?Rose Carpet’, but to me it looks slightly different and wasn’t offered under that name when we obtained it.
