Teucrium Canedense

If you need a tough perennial plant to provide a tall groundcover, check out American Germander.  Sometimes called wood sage, this native plant spreads by rhizomes to form colonies.  It blends well with native grasses in prairie plantings while supporting loads of pollinators.  In spring and summer the stems are topped with spikes of mostly white flowers that have touches of pink and lavender.  I saw this plant used brilliantly in a planting at a restaurant in Lebanon, MO where its spread was contained by metal edging.
