I think more people would have this fall-blooming perennial in their gardens if they were familiar with it. The folks at North Carolina State University’s JC Raulston Arboretum are really impressed with Allim stellatum and talk about how this species is surprisingly absent from cultivation. An extremely attractive native, its spherical flower clusters of rose pink measure nearly 3″ across. Several states in the Central US report its presence but usually only in a few isolated counties, making it a somewhat rare find. Our selection is from a dark pink population in the Arbuckle Mountains of Southern Oklahoma.
