Before you plant this spreading, suckering, twinning vine, you should think about where and on what it will climb. It does have small interesting flowers that sort of resemble a smoking pipe but the number one reason to grow it is for the gorgeous caterpillars it attracts. Pipe Vine is fed upon by the larvae of the very pretty Pipe Vine Swallowtail butterfly. Native to the eastern parts of Oklahoma, it is easy to grow, giving your garden lots of twinning stems and heart-shaped leaves. Those caterpillars are really cool to see.
