Golden Japanese False Nettle is a plant that looks for all the world like a brightly colored coleus yet it has the added bonus of over-wintering outdoors. Its unique name, ‘Kogane Mushi’, means ‘Gold Bug’ in Japanese. Also known as a type of Ramie, the fibrous stalks of this species have been used to make paper and clothing and the plant has also been looked at to treat hair loss. The brightly colored foliage of this perennial really lights up the shade garden.
