Dyschoriste linearis

I’ve grown this little native perennial for around 6 or 7 years and have been quite impressed with its short height and charming purple flowers. Blooming in spring and summer, Narrow-Leaf Dychoriste (Die-core-istee) has flowers that somewhat resemble those of its cousins, the Ruellias. Although it comes from the drier southwestern parts of the US, it has performed quite well in a raised bed with regular watering. Sometimes called Snake Herb, it has proven fully winter hardy in our zone 6b garden. Narrow-Leaf Dychoriste is deer resistant and serves as a host plant for the Vesta Crescent, Texan Crescent and Common Buckeye butterflies.
