A tough bullet proof plant used in highway medians in Texas and California, Oleander will flower continuously throughout the hottest summer. The thing that keeps it from being a top choice plant is that it is highly poisonous. Eating even a small amount can cause severe reaction and death. So be careful to keep children and pets away. With that being said, you still see them in parks and public spaces in warm climates worldwide. Oleander is probably best utilized in a container. I gained a new appreciation of these plants when we saw them growing in the wild in Morocco in 2017. We toured the ruins of the Roman Empire outpost Volubilis which many believe was given its name as a reference to the oleander plants growing nearby.
