There are a lot of reasons why you would want this plant in your garden. It is perennial, has excellent heat tolerance, blooms for several weeks and has blue flowers. Balloon Flower gets its name from the fact that it’s unopened flowerbuds look like puffy balloons. When they open up you get an extra set of petals in the double variety that spread to 2-3 inches across, very noticeable in the garden. Be patient in spring as its new growth can be a little late to emerge. Its gorgeous flowers appear on the plant in spring and summer and can be prolonged with dead heading.
