Usually when you think of coneflowers, you think of Echinacea or Rudbeckias, but this genus is Ratibida, the same as Mexican Hat. I have been familiar with this native perennial for years, then recently saw it in a garden at the Tyler Rose Garden in Tyler, TX. It just looked so impressive blending in with all the shrubs and other perennials. Gray-Headed Coneflower is showy, reliable, easy to grow and attracts lots of butterflies. Its flowers have large drooping petals of yellow with dark center cones.
