University of Georgia plant guru Dr. Allen Armitage says veronicastrums should be the darlings of American gardens and we couldn’t agree more. Where else can you get a plant that grows and flowers equally well in both shade and full sun. Culver’s Root has attractive stems with whirled leaves that are topped from late spring though summer with showy spikes of white butterfly-attracting flowers. The texture this native perennial brings to the landscape is highly valuable. Culver’s Root is currently becoming popular for its use as a cutflower in floral arrangements. It is somewhat amazing that this attractive and durable perennial is not present in more gardens here in Oklahoma.
